Highlights- Summary:
The Patient Registration Specialist shall be responsible for pre-registration, registration, payer identification and verification, referral to financial counseling, and point of service collections. The Specialist shall ensure that data gathered and entered into the computer system(s) of patient demographic and benefit information is accurate. The Specialist shall verify benefits eligibility and limitations, coordination of benefits, and determine and collect the patient's financial responsibility at the point of service.
Additionally, the Specialist shall have an understanding of regulatory requirements (medical necessity determination, Medicare Secondary Payer completion and coordination of benefits, Important Message from Medicare issuance and signage, HIPAA, and EMTALA). This position may have additional duties assigned within scope of the role.
High school graduate or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in healthcare or business-related field preferred. Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) desirable. At least 2 years’ experience in a medical or hospital patient access or financial services environment preferred. Training experience a plus. Knowledge of government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.
License / CertificationNone
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software.
