This position involves providing direct in‑home intervention for severely emotionally/behaviorally disturbed children and their families. The employee will be a member of a team that manages a maximum caseload of four to six families for up to twelve weeks each. The team provides ten to twenty hours of weekly direct services to each family. The primary mission is to reduce crisis, institute a therapeutic process and prevent out‑of‑home placement.
A child is defined as anyone within the age range of five to seventeen.
- Assess and implement treatment programs for severely emotionally/behaviorally disturbed children and their families.
- Provide direct in‑home therapy to four to six families for a twelve‑week period, including individual and family therapy.
- Document clinical charts, including intake and all therapy sessions.
- Facilitate in‑home therapy sessions and implement the treatment program without direct supervision.
- Work closely with Department of Human Resources, Family Court and other agencies in the selection and treatment of children and families during the in‑home intervention.
- Provide transportation to children and families when appropriate.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Knowledge of the special needs and behavioral characteristics of severely emotionally/behaviorally disturbed children and their families.
- Knowledge of psychotherapy principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications, including their use and side effects.
- Ability to perform individual and family therapy, including behavior modification, RET, parental education, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to provide leadership to the in‑home counselor and assist in his/her clinical skills.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with other professionals and agencies.
- Ability to organize and manage one’s own activities with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work flexible hours due to the special needs of children and families.
- Participation in a rotating 24‑hour on‑call roster.
- Ability to quickly establish rapport with clients.
- Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology and at least one year of applicable experience.
- ALC, LPC, LGSW, or LCSW preferred (see note below).
- Some clinical experience preferred.
- Degree and experience must meet requirements for Approved Medicaid Provider status.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record with Carastar’s insurance carrier.
- Must maintain at least liability coverage on personal vehicles.
- Must hold and maintain a current Red Cross First Aid, CPI, and CPR certificate.
Licensure is not a requirement of this position. If you do not hold one of the licenses above, you may still apply. If hired, you will begin as a Therapist I, which is in a classification with a lower salary range. While a license is not required, if/when you become licensed you will advance to the Therapist II classification.
