OverviewThe RN - Charge Nurse shall be responsible to facilitate, coordinate, and evaluate unit activities for the provision of quality patient care during the assigned shift. This individual reports to the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager and serves as a mentor to the staff, acting as a role model in the application of the nursing process, quality improvement standards, and organizational and department goal and objectives in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Responsibilities• Facilitate and coordinate unit activities during the shift
• Evaluate unit activities and ensure quality patient care
• Mentor and supervise staff, provide direction in nursing processes
• Apply quality improvement standards and hospital policies
• Perform additional duties assigned within the scope of the role
- Education:
Degree in Nursing required, Bachelor's degree preferred. - Experience:
Minimum 1 year staff nurse experience required. - License:
Active RN licensure required. - Certifications:
BLS required. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC may be required depending on the area assigned.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
- Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
- Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
- Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Ability to observe, assess, and record work, safety and infection control standards.
Physical Requirements
• Requires sitting for 20% of the workday and mobility 80% of the workday.
• Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
• Frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.
• Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds.
• Continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person.
• Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
• Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes; minimal noise levels.
• Much exposure to computer work.
• Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock, infectious disease, hazardous chemicals, and radiation.
