Paving Equipment Operator Apprenticeship

We are seeking motivated individuals for our Paving Equipment Operator Apprenticeship Program

This comprehensive program is designed to provide hands‑on training and classroom instruction to develop skilled professionals who can excel in asphalt paving crews. Successful graduates will earn a nationally recognized credential from the U.S. Department of Labor, validating their expertise in the field. The apprenticeship program combines on‑job training with classroom learning, with a maximum duration of two years.

• Engage in classroom assignments and on‑job training during designated time periods.
• Operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment, including brooms, rollers, skid steers, and shuttle buggies.
• Perform various tasks related to traffic control, asphalt raking, and general labor.

• Stand for extended periods and perform bending, stooping, and crouching as necessary.
• Occasionally work with hands raised overhead while operating power tools or hand tools for cleaning purposes.
• Lift objects weighing at least 50 pounds individually and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
• Possess manual dexterity to operate a wheelbarrow and use hand tools like shovels, rakes, and pickaxes. Must also be able to communicate using proper hand signals for truck‑related tasks.
• Walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground, in various weather conditions.
• Safely climb on and off heavy mobile equipment.
• Remain alert and aware of multiple activities on the construction site, including the movements of other employees, contractors, stationary equipment, and mobile machinery.

• The work environment may expose employees to high levels of noise periodically.
• All work is performed outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.
• Job tasks may involve exposure to substances commonly found in road construction or near equipment, such as grease, diesel fuel, gasoline, and asphalt.
• Regular proximity to heavy equipment, moving machinery, and traffic is to be expected.

• High School Diploma/GED or Level 2 TABE exam scores of 442 (Reading) and 449 (Math).
• Valid Driver's License.
• Ability to comprehend work instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and fellow employees on the job site.
