This position is responsible for the transportation of patients to and from various areas, including but not limited to nursing units, procedure areas, testing areas, therapy, and laboratory areas. Also provides assistance to patients arriving and departing from the hospital, specimens, supplies, medication, and other related items to appropriate hospital and clinical locations. Frequently, they may be called upon to assist in the physical movement of patients to and from bed and/or equipment.
This position is expected to know and practice all basic hospital safety policies, to carry out transport and equipment assignments under general supervision, show evidence of efficient time management and sound basic knowledge of patient needs for comfort and safety during transport. Trained in CPR, and be responsible for the handling/transporting of medication.
- High School Degree
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS)
- Strong verbal communication & writing skills
- Knowledge of computers and phones
- Ability to pass a CPR course
- Ability to effectively use a two way radio
- Up to 1 year experience in a related field
- After completing an assignment accepts the next assignment on floor or in a timely manner. Does not go idle wasting time in-between runs.
- Is always approachable while being addressed by the dispatcher/lead with other duties as assigned and clocks in/out and breaks in a timely manner.
- Facilitate patient and supply movement within the time standard set by this department.
- Transport patients and supplies to and from various destinations observing department policies and procedures.
- Exhibit Service Excellence set by Tri Health and laid out in the Service Standards Agreements.
- Acts as a good steward in terms of care and condition of equipment and supplies. Cleans and maintains equipment per departmental policy, following infection control guidelines. Works to maintain the integrity and functioning of equipment and supplies.
