Job Overview

• Patrol buildings and grounds to deter/prevent law and policy violations.
• Post-up at specific locations when assigned.
• Ensure the safety and security of patients, parents, visitors, and team members.
• Maintain communications with the Communications Center and other Protective Services personnel by two‑way radio, phone and other communication devices.
• Ensure that only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises; contact unauthorized persons to determine service needs, ask questions, re‑routing or detainment appropriate to the facts known at the time.
• Report safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections; look for violations of the Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA and Fire Code safety regulations.
• Officers may be assigned On‑Call responsibilities and may be reassigned to other locations and work schedules including weekends and holidays as needed to fulfill the mission of the department.
• Respond to and investigate routine and/or urgent complaints reported by patients, parents, visitors and team members and implement service recovery as appropriate.
• File appropriate documentation by the end of the shift.
• Conduct follow‑up investigations as directed and file appropriate reports by the end of the shift.
• Pass on information to others during shift huddles.
• Emergency response to distress calls, panic alarms and emergency calls for disorderly conduct, disruptive persons or combative patients within 3 minutes of activation.
• Assist clinical staff with patient restraint; monitor combative or potentially combative patients as directed.
• Physically restrain patients as instructed by the appropriate clinical staff members.
• Respond to safety emergencies; evaluate the situation and act appropriately with Tri Health policy guidelines.
• Serve as a source of authority; constantly maintain high visibility.
• Provide help in times of emergency and stress.
• Act as liaison and partner with police and fire agencies as needed.
• Direct traffic within Tri Health campuses and control parking of all patients, parents, visitors and team members.
• Enforce hospital parking rules and issue parking violations to illegally parked vehicles.
• Escort patients, parents, visitors and team members to and from parking areas as needed.
• Control access for Tri Health entities and perform all necessary locking and unlocking within the various buildings and grounds.
• Enter and maintain current information in all Security logs and forms.
• Act as a resource of information for patients, parents, visitors and team members.
• Provide information, including directions and parking.
• Enforce Tri Health policies and procedures.

• High School Degree or GED
• 1‑2 years Technical experience in Criminal Justice, Private Security, Police experience or Military preferred
• Excellent commnication and customer service skills
• Current Private Security handgun certification or ability to obtain certification within 45 days of hire
• Valid Driver's License with no more than 4 driving points recorded on a motor vehicle report
• No prior DUI/DWI convictions within the last 5 years
• No major moving violations convictions

An officer must be willing and and able to protect him/herself from harm using education and tactics following use of force policies. An officer must be able to protect staff and patients from harm any threat officers must carry a firearm at all times. When conducting business for Tri Health Corporate Security officer must conform to Corporate Security Policies concerning defensive equipment.
