Job Purpose: Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems; repairs and maintains electric, diesel, and gasoline industrial trucks.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to read prints.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools such as screwdriver, wrench, file, grinder, drill, rivet gun.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Will be regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
  • The work environment is usually moderate.

Job Duties:

  • This job may have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Listens for unusual sound from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery.
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Determines malfunction of industrial truck in order to plan work procedures for repair.
  • Installs new ignition systems, brake repairs, changes or recharges batteries.
  • Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Performs air brake and DOT inspections of semi-trailers.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs of company vehicles.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs of forklifts and manlifts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
