Instructor - Adult Basic Education (Becker)

WEST ABE is a regional consortium of educational sites within school districts and four county jails to help adult learners acquire basic skills in reading, math, computer, and English language. Monticello is the fiscal agent.

Part-Time Position

Tuesdays 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Start Date:

ASAP. This position involves providing direct instruction to adults in the ABE/GED program at the Becker High School site, evenings from 5:30-8:00 p.m., plus a 1/2-hour prep; which evening and hours may be able to be changed. Up to 40 paid professional development hours are available annually.

Responsibilities will include providing direct instruction to adult students who are working to improve their basic reading, math, digital skills and/or preparing students for the official GED exam. Position also includes student assessment, returning student phone calls, monitoring student attendance, completing necessary student record keeping, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid MN teaching license. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to be flexible and function well in a busy environment. Ability to work as a team member. Computer experience and comfort with Internet, email, and Google apps preferred. Must be physically working in the building/onsite.

Starting Hourly Wage: $28.31 per hour

• Current MN Teaching License required
• Previous experience teaching within an adult basic education program, experience providing online instruction, and working with diverse populations, preferred.

• Computer skills required, knowledge of MS Office/Google or comparable
• Strong leadership and time management skills
• Effective decision making skills while acting within the district policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
• Maintain confidentiality of information about students, families, and staff
• Experience working with diverse students and families
