Job Summary
WEST ABE is a consortium of educational sites within school districts and four county jails to help adults acquire basic skills. Monticello is the fiscal agent.
This position involves providing direct instruction to adults in an Adult EL program in Mound at WeCAN during evenings from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., plus 1/2-hour prep; the evening schedule may be flexible. Up to 40 paid professional development hours are available annually.
Responsibilities include providing direct instruction to adult students working to improve their English skills. Additional duties include student assessment, returning student phone calls, monitoring attendance, maintaining student records, and other assigned tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid MN teaching license for teaching English as a Second Language, or a bachelor's/master's degree in English as a Second Language, applied linguistics, or bilingual education. Strong communication and organizational skills. Flexibility and ability to work in a busy environment. Teamwork skills. Computer proficiency, including Internet, email, and Google apps preferred. Must be physically present onsite.
Starting Hourly Wage: $27.75 per hour

Certification And Experience
- Current MN Teaching License required
- Preferred: experience teaching in adult basic education, online instruction, and working with diverse populations.
- Computer skills, familiarity with MS Office/Google or similar
- Strong leadership and time management skills
- Effective decision-making within district policies
- Good communication with students and staff
- Confidentiality awareness
- Experience with diverse students and families
