Supervisor of Chemistry Nuclear – Monticello, MN

This position is responsible for the day-to-day direction of the Chemistry Group. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the development, coordination, and implementation of chemical treatment programs at a nuclear generating power plant. These responsibilities include directing the Site’s chemistry laboratories and/or staff activities to ensure lowest possible cost, effective plant water chemistry management, while maintaining environmental compliance.

This person is also responsible for reinforcing safe work practices, control of department budget and interfacing with union personnel, and other duties as assigned. The individual may fill in for the Chemistry General Supervisor.

• Provides first line supervision of full-time Chemistry personnel to ensure their duties are performed in a safe, productive manner. Ensures compliance with the plant operating license, NRC, other Federal, State and County regulations, EPRI guidelines, INPO good practices, vendor specifications, and management expectations.
• Performs staffing functions to develop, and maintain skilled and trained employees. Performs performance appraisals, coaches, disciplines, counsel’s employees via the PMP process and work observation program. Ensures employee development is ongoing via coordinating responsibilities and assignments within group to most effectively meet customer requirements and training development.
• Interfaces with regulatory and industry representatives on behalf of the Site’s Chemistry related activities.
• Represents Chemistry interests at all levels of the organization including representing the Chemistry Group at all meetings. Clearly communicates technical Chemistry information, concepts, and ideas verbally and in writing.
• Ensures the Chemistry Training Program is implemented and maintain in accordance with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) Training Academy Guidelines.

• A Bachelors degree in Chemistry, or related technical degree, from a four-year college or university and five years commercial nuclear power plant experience preferred.
• Experience as a nuclear Navy ELT and 3 years of job related experience may be credited for the Bachelor’s degree.
• Technically proficient in chemistry and radiochemistry analyses, and a technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operation is essential.
