The Tax Auditor I role is part of Vermont's Department of Taxes Compliance Division, based in Montpelier. The position involves reviewing taxpayer records, conducting audits, preparing assessments, and communicating with taxpayers to ensure fair and accurate administration of Vermont's tax laws. You'll work with dynamic technologies in a collaborative, mission-driven environment supporting public service.
Key qualifications:- Associate's degree in accounting, finance, public administration, mathematics, business management or related field; or 1+ years tax examination/preparation or accounting experience
- Experience in tax examination, accounting, or financial operations
- Education or training in taxation, accounting or auditing
- Government audit experience preferred
- Must pass background investigation and fingerprinting for access to federal tax information
