Overview

The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation is seeking a Historic Preservation Specialist to lead disaster recovery and resiliency efforts for flood-impacted historic communities. The role focuses primarily on conducting regulatory reviews and compliance under Section 106 and 22 VSA, evaluating Areas of Potential Effects, and establishing official flood adaptation compliance guidance for both agency staff and applicants. The specialist will oversee the technical implementation of the Vermont Flood Adaptation Application-integrating state-specific mandates like the Flood Hazard Area and River Corridor Rule (FHARC)-while directly advising communities on structural mitigation alternatives such as flood proofing, utility relocation, and elevation.

Additionally, the position is responsible for authoring a Flood Resiliency Booklet based on the Secretary of the Interior's Standards, collaborating across state and federal agencies, and managing the re-evaluation of State and National Register listings by adjusting boundaries and processing delistings for properties impacted by buyouts or extensive adaptations.
