POSITION

DESCRIPTION:

On shift Maintenance operators are responsible to perform preventative maintenance on equipment as well as repairs to minimize Mill production delays, follow all maintenance JSA’s, and SSAB’s safety policies. The ideal candidate will have maintenance experience related to heavy manufacturing and requires working on rotating swing shifts.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance tasks
  • Perform repairs on rolling mill and finishing equipment
  • Fabricate and assemble new equipment
  • Perform rebuilds of components utilized in the rolling mill and finishing equipment
  • Troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic and electromechanical components
  • Knowledge and ability to learn SSAB’s computerized maintenance system to generate work orders, complete assigned work orders and search for and/or request spare parts.
  • Perform all work utilizing safe work practice’s
  • Follow all Lockout / tag-out / try-out programs
  • Follow / practice JSA and EIC Program and policies

QUALIFICATIONS –

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience and Competencies

Required:
  • Blueprint reading and equipment manual interpretation skills
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum 2 years’ documented experience in the Industrial maintenance field Or 2 year Industrial / Technical degree or apprenticeship training
  • Self-motivated
  • Trouble shooting and Problem solving abilities
  • Perform work assignments safely
  • Work in a Team oriented environment
  • Pass a Weld test, vertical, and overhead (1” plate)
  • Perform job tasks with minimal supervision
  • Work rotating shifts

Education:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
Preferred:
  • Associates degree or certificate in mechanical field

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee will frequently be required to:

  • Sit, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Reach above shoulder level and below waist level
  • Use both hands for grasping, fingering, gripping and feeling textures and temperatures
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

The employee will occasionally be required to:

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

The position requires the following vision and hearing capabilities:

  • Close, distance and peripheral vision
  • Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Hearing in person, on the phone, and/or in group settings

The employee will work in the following conditions:

  • Extreme hot and cold conditions
  • Wet and humid conditions
  • Amid fumes, dust, dirt, and smoke
  • In confined areas, high places and around equipment in motion
  • While wearing personal protective / safety equipment to prevent injury from noise and environmental hazards

POSITION TYPE - WORK HOURS - TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position is a full time, hourly, and is eligible for overtime
  • Position works rotating 12-hour swing shifts to include days and nights
  • No travel is expected for this position
