Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Payroll and Accounting Technician will be a key contributor to the accounting department with the objective of delivering a high level of accuracy, integrity, and timeliness reporting with a focus on supporting the payroll and other accounting processes. The individual will work collaboratively with both the accounting team and other departments to achieve corporate objectives, deadlines and enforce corporate procedures and policies.
PrimaryResponsibilities (Payroll)
- Administers payroll and benefits systems for multiple entities in multiple countries;
- Completes bi-monthly and monthly payroll (Canada, USA, France, Mauritius);
- Maintains payroll information including all earning, deductions within the multiple payroll systems;
- Processes adjustments such as car allowances, expense reimbursements;
- Validates, and audits the payroll records in terms of changes in compensation, adjustments, taxes, deductions, benefit and RRSP setup, status change, record of employments including validating the final vacation amounts taken and owed;
- Posts payroll journal entries and conducts payroll reconciliations for accounting department;
- Administers payroll tax submission for each payroll and prepares monthly reports;
- Completes year-end processes (issue T4s, RL and W2s slips) and files annual payroll reports including WSIB, EHT, etc.
- Applys payroll policies and procedures that are in compliance with professional standards, provincial, state and federal regulatory requirements;
- Resolves payroll discrepancies, assists with payroll related inquiries from employees, and tax issues by coordinating, collecting, analyzing information, and setting up cases with payroll provider if needed;
- Implements processes and procedures to increase the efficiency of the payroll process;
- All other duties as assigned
- Administers bank platforms for multiple entities in multiple countries;
- Analyzes and processes accounts payable in a timely manner;
- Prepares check, wire transfers, and ACH transactions;
- Responds to external vendors and internal managers regarding all aspects of the accounts payable process, including processing invoices for payment, recording sales tax, assisting with bank reconciliations;
- Verifies the accuracy of vendor invoices and confirm that the correct general ledger account codes are used;
- Prepares the monthly intercompany billing and intercompany reconciliations;
- Remits federal and provincial taxes and looks after the correspondence with tax authorities;
- Provides end-to-end accounting support for other subsidiaries;
- Assists with accounting tasks such as month end closing and year-end audit;
- Prepares audit packages and acts as a point of contact with the external auditors as part of the annual audit;
- Increases productivity by developing automated reporting tools;
- Leads special projects, provide supplementary & ad-hoc reporting/analysis as required;
- Document processes and procedures and make recommendations for their improvement;
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree or completion of a diploma program in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources or equivalent required;
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in accounting and/or payroll accounting (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered)
- Member of the Canadian Payroll Association, an asset;
- Sound understanding of accounting principles and payroll related employment guidelines;
- Strong aptitudes to work with various payroll software. Nethis is a strong asset;
- Experience working with large ERPs preferred. Netsuite experience is a strong asset;
