Position Overview
The Property Accountant (Commercial) is responsible for supporting the financial management of Leyad's commercial property portfolio. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role oversees day-to-day accounting activities, assists with financial reporting, and works closely with Property Managers to ensure accurate financial records. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to grow within a collaborative accounting team.
Key Responsibilities- Perform full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of commercial properties.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end working papers.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Review tenant accounts, rent rolls, and operating cost recoveries for accuracy.
- Process CAM (Common Area Maintenance) and realty tax reconciliations.
- Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Review commercial lease agreements to ensure accurate tenant billing and rent adjustments.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and year-end working papers.
- Work closely with Property Managers to resolve accounting discrepancies and answer financial inquiries.
- Support the year-end audit process by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate financial records while ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in accounting processes and internal controls.
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of property accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate.
- Experience with Yardi or another property management/accounting software is considered an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Understanding of commercial leases and operating cost recoveries is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
