Position DescriptionThe CAD Designer (Furniture/Millwork) – Level II is responsible for executing the design process for assigned projects and ensuring projects are within budget and timelines, while meeting quality standards. Under the design department umbrella, you will create detailed client‑facing, production, and assembly drawings. You will collaborate with both external and internal fabrication teams to produce efficient and constructible projects while adhering to By Quality standards and guidelines.
This role is ideal for a designer with strong product sensibility and technical proficiency, who can balance intent with manufacturing feasibility.
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, client submittal packages, finish schedules and other related construction documentation.
- Translate design submittal into design packages (approval drawings, production drawings, prototypes, 3D models) that include all details needed for internal fabrication or outsourced contractors as required.
- Create 2D and 3D deliverables using relevant software (Solid Works and others).
- Proactively identify and troubleshoot design challenges.
- Design with consideration for manufacturing processes, machinery, and in-house capabilities.
- Research and recommend materials, hardware and finishes as needed.
- Conduct regular research and development on new trends in the industry, as well as materials and finishes to maintain a present and forward‑focused product offering.
- Ensure compliance with ADA and necessary Building Code requirements.
- Coordinate site measurements, resolve site conflicts, and consult with clients to ensure successful installation of the project if required.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal team members, clients and vendors to ensure efficient project execution.
- Work closely with project team to resolve any production development challenges as needed.
- Effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization and project deadlines.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Adapt to adjusting priorities and communicate impact to respective managerial staff as needed.
- Engage in proactive and effective communication with design department and cross‑functional teams.
- Maintain accurate records of product development R&D for reporting and compliance purposes.
- Work alongside Project Managers and Operations to ensure projects proceed through the Production Departments & Vendors according to contract documents, quality standards, time frames, and budgets.
- Collaborate with senior management and cross‑functional teams to continuously improve workflow processes and efficiency.
- Ensure all design files and documentation are organized and stored according to company file management structures.
- Follow company standards, templates, processes, and documentation procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of product development R&D for reporting and compliance purposes.
- Degree or Diploma in Industrial Design, Furniture Making, Product Design or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in above fields.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD Software (Solid Works).
- Working knowledge of computer software applications related to design and development such as AI programs, Keyshot, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office.
- Time Management and multi‑tasking.
- Attention to detail, problem solving mindset, and excellent communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Qualifications & Skills
- Solid Works PDM experience.
- Metal fabrication knowledge.
- Other related fabrication experience.
