Position: 10th-11th Grade Math Associate Instructor (Fall 2026)

Title: Math Associate Instructor

Department: SEO High School Scholars, San Francisco

Report to: Senior Manager, Teaching & Learning

Compensation: $40/hour

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: San Francisco, CA

Work Arrangement: This role requires on-site work at an SEO program site

Hours: Up to 10 hours/programming week

Schedule: 9:00-4:00 PM (Select Saturdays – see dates below)

SEO Scholars is a free, eight‑year, academic program that transforms public high school students in New York City, San Francisco, North Carolina, and Miami into college graduates. SEO Scholars successfully educates and mentors students to and through college. 100% of Scholars are accepted into four‑year colleges, 85% of Scholars graduate with a Bachelor’s degree, and 80% are first‑generation college graduates. Position Overview

Associate Instructors will join SEO’s community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Using our original curriculum and a student‑centered approach to teaching and learning, Associate Instructors play an integral part in supporting our Scholars’ journeys to a competitive college and beyond. Associate Instructors promote depth of understanding and skill acquisition by serving as a coach and facilitator of learning.

Associates co‑teach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini lessons, organize small group and one‑on‑one instruction, and provide additional Scholar support. Associate Instructors do not have grading responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruction & Facilitation
    • Co‑teach four periods of Math coursework.
    • Follow provided lesson plans and meet lesson objectives, abiding by SEO’s criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement.
  • Navigate Instructional Technologies
    • Facilitate the use of technological resources for instruction.
  • Content Preparation
    • Read, internalize, and practice all lesson plans and materials provided by SEO prior to teaching.
    • Implement adjustments to pacing and activities based on student needs.
    • Reflect on coaching feedback and brainstorm teaching strategies with peers.
  • Classroom Culture
    • Project an energetic, engaging, and approachable persona to promote student connections, investment in the learning experience, and positive relationship to all members of the community.
  • Grading and Record-Keeping
    • Calculate grades according to rubrics.
    • Provide actionable, growth‑oriented feedback to students.
    • Complete all grading within 1 week and keep the gradebook up to date.
  • Collaboration with SEO Staff and Other Instructors
    • Plan and work alongside fellow instructors.
    • Attend all scheduled meetings, professional developments, check‑ins, and debriefs.
    • Respond to all messages in a timely manner.
  • Responsiveness to Coaching and Feedback
    • Meet with instructional coaches at least twice during the semester to receive and implement feedback from their classroom observations.
Courses
  • 10th Math:
    Pattern and Structure
    • In this course, students will explore algebraic and geometric concepts by identifying patterns and describing mathematical structures. You will help students build on their knowledge of numbers and operations, algebraic representation, and functions and their graphs to deepen their understanding of the logic that underpins algebraic manipulation and make connections between algebra and geometry.
    • The concepts and skills that students will explore in this course form the foundation for trigonometry and future math courses. This is where they start to transition from foundational math to more challenging and rewarding math.
  • 11th Math: SAT Math Fundamentals
    • In this course, students will learn how their journey through the SEO math curriculum up to this point has already prepared them in a substantial way for math on the SAT. You’ll teach students how to leverage this hard‑earned knowledge and apply heuristic problem‑solving strategies and Desmos calculator techniques to achieve success on this important standardized test.
