Requirements and Nature of Work Prepare discussion prompts and facilitate informal, interactive conversation sessions that provide students with opportunities to practise spoken English. Encourage active participation, support respectful and inclusive group interaction, and help sustain conversation through questions, prompts, and student-centred activities. The workshops are conversation-practice activities. They do not involve the delivery of a course curriculum, formal language instruction, assessment, grading, or evaluation of students.
Responsibilities include taking attendance, reporting session information to the Academic Services Coordinator, consulting with the supervisor as required, and creating an inclusive environment that supports students' confidence and willingness to communicate in English.
Requirements Ability to facilitate group discussions, encourage participation, and adapt conversation prompts to participants' interests and language levels.
Strong spoken English and interpersonal communication skills are required.
Experience facilitating conversation groups, language-practice activities, or other student-centred group activities is an asset.
Intercultural awareness and experience working with second-language learners are also assets.
Please note:
These conversation workshops are offered exclusively on the University of Ottawa campus and require in-person facilitation.
Schedule:
Mondays 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM (excluding Thanksgiving Day)
