JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Electrical Engineering has 31 professors, 3 lecturers, 24 support staff members, 682 undergraduate students, 146 master’s students, and 189 doctoral students. The Department’s faculty members conduct cutting-edge research in electrical engineering across a wide range of areas, including biomedical engineering, medical imaging, automation and control systems, energy and electrical networks, microelectronics, microsystems, microwaves, systems and telecommunications networks, and related fields.

The Department of Electrical Engineering invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Outstanding candidates at the rank of Full Professor will also be considered. The successful candidate must be able to deliver high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, demonstrate strong communication skills, show interest in industrial collaborations, and be committed to innovative teaching.

The Department is seeking candidates with demonstrated expertise in the theoretical foundations and practical applications of automation, and the ability to develop an internationally recognized research program primarily focused on automation and control systems. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, nonlinear control, stochastic and robust control, data-driven approaches, learning and optimization, and distributed, multi-agent, and networked control systems.

Targeted applications may include robotics and autonomous systems, smart and cyber-physical systems, electrical power and transportation networks, or the control of biological or quantum systems.

Candidates whose research program addresses major societal challenges, such as the energy transition, sustainable mobility, smart infrastructure, health and safety, and fosters collaborations, industrial partnerships, and technology transfer, are strongly encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will carry out the responsibilities of this position with dynamism and creativity. Among other duties, they will:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels;
  • Supervise undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students;
  • Carry out innovative research projects;
  • Obtain grants and contracts aimed at supporting research work with the aim of training highly qualified personnel;
  • Publish the scientific results of this research;
  • Participate in the department’s teaching and research activities;
  • Collaborate with other research teams at Polytechnique Montréal or other institutions;
