McGill University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Geography with a research focus on the interface of health and sustainability. We seek a scholar specializing in one or more of the following areas (in no order of priority):
1) the health and well-being impacts of climate change, including climate-related disasters and disaster response;
2) health and food systems, including food/water safety and security;
3) modelling complex systems at the intersection of health and environment;
4) global health, One Health, vector-borne diseases; or
5) governance for health and sustainability transformations. The successful candidate should complement and broaden our strengths in health geography and sustainability science and society.

The Department of Geography at McGill University has active research clusters in human and physical geography, geospatial data science, and sustainability science. In addition, there are various cross-university research opportunities in health and sustainability in many departments and programs, such as the McGill School of Population and Global Health, the Bieler School of the Environment, and the development of the McGill Sustainability Park ().

The Department of Geography offers different undergraduate (B.A.,

B.Sc. and B.A. & Sc.) programs in physical and human geography, e.g. a minor in health geography, a major in urban studies, a recently created major in geospatial data science, as well as an interfaculty undergraduate program in Sustainability Science and Society. The Department of Geography offers field courses in Montreal, Eastern Canada, East Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Geography or a related field. In addition, applicants must demonstrate the ability or potential to maintain a vigorous, independent research program, supervise graduate students, and teach introductory and advanced classes in support of the Department’s programs.
