Course DescriptionEDSL 640. Language Awareness:
Theory and Practice.
Explores the concept of language awareness-learners’ and teachers’ explicit knowledge about and conscious perception of language in relation to its learning, teaching, and use. Will further outline possibilities for promoting learners’ language awareness in the L2 classroom.
This course is not Team Taught or offered online.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs)Education
1.PhD in Second Language Education or related area (in exceptional cases, PhD candidates and master teachers with an MA and extensive relevant experience, significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered)
Experience- 1.Expert knowledge of course content as represented in current Course Catalogue description, including:
- Concepts/theories of language awareness - learners and teachers explicit knowledge and perceptions of language in relation to L2 teaching and learning
- Promotion of learners’ language awareness in L2 classrooms
- 2.Successful experience teaching similar course(s) is an asset
- 3.Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation
- 1.Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors.
- 2.Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of course start date
- 3.Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion
- 4.Familiarity using my Courses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences
- 5.Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset
- 6.Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools
