HES Specialist East Region
Location: Montréal-Est
The HES Specialist supports Health, Environment & Safety programs across Sunoco’s Canadian East Region operations. This role works closely with regional support, site leadership, unionized employees, and Joint Health & Safety Committees (JHSCs) to ensure regulatory compliance, effective incident response, and continuous improvement in safety performance. A strong on‑site presence is required.
Responsibilities- Ensure compliance with Canadian federal, provincial, and municipal HES regulations.
- Support regulatory inspections, audits, reporting, and agency interactions.
- Implement and enforce HES programs, policies, and procedures.
- Lead or support incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Support emergency response programs, including spills and injuries.
- Partner with union leadership and JHSCs to promote safe work practices.
- Maintain a strong on‑site presence across multiple facilities.
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
- 2–5 years of HES experience in the petroleum, pipeline, terminal, or chemical process industry.
- Experience in a unionized, multi‑site industrial environment is an asset.
- Practical knowledge of waste, wastewater, stormwater, air, and safety regulations.
- Strong communication, investigation, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- English and French proficiency (oral and written).
- Ability to travel to the United States for business meetings.
- CRSP designation or active pursuit of certification is a plus.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.
- On‑site role combining office and field work.
- Industrial environments with personal protective equipment requirements.
- Occasional after‑hours or emergency response support.
- Worksite location is not limited to Montreal or Quebec City and will be determined by the selected candidate.
- Frequent travel is required in this role.
