We are on the hunt for a Satellite In Orbit Commissioning Systems Engineer on our Satellite systems team at our Montreal office.

Role

Commissioning typically includes initial orbit determination and tracking; making first contact; sequential activation and checkout of spacecraft subsystems; and calibration of payloads, sensors, and control systems.

As the Satellite In Orbit Commissioning System Engineer, you will oversee the overall IOT definition, plan, preparation, tests and site surveys for MDA Aurora Constellations.

Tasks

The In Orbit Commissioning System Engineer will perform and participate in the following activities.

  • Prepare, plan and execute the satellite operations including Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP), Commissioning and Routine phases operations, developing, testing, validating and maintaining flight operations plans and procedures, satellite database and the necessary operations items and tools.
  • Support analysis and investigation of operational events and anomalies related to the satellite and ground segment elements.
  • Prepare and execute System Validation Tests with the satellite on ground.
  • Assist in the provision of training to the Mission Control Centre operations personnel.
  • Support in‑orbit operations coordination of satellite activities with the system level operations.
  • Support the operational validation of Mission Control Centre and operator training.
  • Prepare operations reports.
  • Preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings and reviews as necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics or similar with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Previous IOT test experience with LEO/MEO/GEO satellites
  • Understanding of the space environment and orbit mechanics
  • Strong understanding of space systems and engineering fundamentals
  • Demonstrated capability to test systems and resolve problems
  • Hands‑on individual who can lead all systems integration processes
  • Experience with qualification and acceptance testing of new designs
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Demonstrated capability to efficiently work with little to no supervision
