About the Role

Datamine North America is seeking an experienced Mine Planning Solutions Consultant to join our North America team. This client-facing position combines mine planning expertise with consulting, software implementation, training, technical support, and pre-sales activities.

The consultant will support a broad range of open pit planning workflows across metals and strati graphic deposits. The technical portfolio includes Mine Scape for commodities such as coal, mineral sands, potash, and phosphate, together with Studio NPVS+, Studio OP, Datamine Tactical Scheduler, Studio Survey, and Minemax solutions for optimization, design, scheduling, survey, and operational planning.

The successful candidate will bring practical mine planning experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to translate client requirements into effective technical workflows. Experience with Datamine products is preferred; relevant experience with comparable mine planning systems will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Consulting Implementation and Mine Planning

  • Lead consulting and implementation projects for open pit metals and strati graphic deposit operations.
  • Deploy, configure, and support Mine Scape applications for strati graphic modeling, mine design, scheduling, and operational planning.
  • Adapt software and workflows to client requirements in coal, mineral sands, potash, phosphate, and metals operations.
  • Apply Studio NPVS+ to strategic open pit planning, pit optimization, scheduling, and scenario analysis.
  • Use Studio OP for medium- and short-term pit design, waste dump scheduling, haulage optimization, and blending.
  • Apply Datamine Tactical Scheduler, Studio Survey, Minemax, and other planning tools as required by client engagements.
  • Conduct or support due diligence reviews, life-of-mine plans, trade-off studies, and proof-of-concept models.
  • Integrate geological models, survey data, mine designs, schedules, and operational plans into practical planning workflows.

Training Client Success and Support

  • Deliver onsite and remote training, workshops, and mentoring for engineers, planners, surveyors, and operations personnel.
  • Develop tailored learning materials and practical exercises that support successful software adoption.
  • Guide users through workflows for strati graphic modeling, pit optimization, mine design, scheduling, haulage, blending, survey integration, and operational planning.
  • Troubleshoot technical and workflow issues and provide responsive, practical recommendations based on mine planning best practices.
  • Build trusted client relationships and identify opportunities to improve workflows, expand solution use, and strengthen long-term value.

Pre Sales and Product Collaboration

  • Support the sales team through technical product demonstrations, presentations, discovery sessions, and responses to client questions.
  • Develop proof-of-concept models and tailored workflows that demonstrate how Datamine solutions address client requirements.
  • Collaborate with product, support, and research and development teams, providing client feedback that improves functionality and user experience.
  • Maintain awareness of related industry software, including Deswik, Maptek, Hexagon, Micromine, Surpac, Minex, and Carlson, to support client advisory and solution positioning.
  • Develop working knowledge across the wider Datamine planning portfolio to support multidisciplinary client engagements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Mining Engineering from a recognized university.
  • At least three years of relevant professional experience in a mining company, mining consultancy, or mining software organization.
  • Hands-on open pit mine planning experience in metals or strati graphic deposits; experience across both areas is an advantage.
  • Practical experience with mine planning software used for geological modeling, optimization, design, scheduling, haulage, blending, or survey workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convert technical requirements into practical solutions.
