Mechanical Designer
Xona is the navigational intelligence company bringing real-time, centimeter-level certainty to any device, anywhere on Earth.
With Pulsar - the world’s most advanced PNT satellite infrastructure in Low Earth Orbit - Xona will offer a future-proof, backwards-compatible global positioning system optimized for absolute precision, superior power, and robust protection.
(français ci-dessous)We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join Xona’s spacecraft hardware development team in Montréal, at the historic RCA Victor Building in St. Henri. In this role, you will support the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems such as those that enable spacecraft attitude determination and control and improve power performance.
You will work closely with controls, electrical, systems, avionics, and software engineers to help develop high-reliability electromechanical hardware for satellite flight systems. This is a hands‑on role involving both electrical design and laboratory testing, with opportunities to contribute throughout the development lifecycle from early prototyping, through spacecraft integration and test and into full scale manufacturing.
What you will do- Support the design and development of mechanical and electromechanical components and assemblies.
- Create and update 3D CAD models, drawings, and design documentation.
- Assist with requirements definition, trade studies, analysis, and design reviews.
- Support hardware bring‑up, integration, verification, and environmental test campaigns.
- Help develop and execute mechanical tests, including vibration and thermal cycling.
- Assist with supplier component evaluation, selection, and technical coordination.
- Contribute to prototype builds, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
- Collaborate with controls, electrical, systems, software, manufacturing, and test engineers.
- Document test results, engineering analyses, and design decisions.
- Work under the guidance of senior engineers while progressively taking ownership of assigned components or subsystems.
- Take responsibility for delivering assigned work with appropriate guidance and follow‑through.
- Be proactive in identifying issues, asking questions, and communicating risks early.
- Balance thoughtful engineering with hands‑on execution; participate directly in builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Work effectively in a fast‑paced environment where priorities may shift and information may be incomplete.
- Approach challenges with curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to learn.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high‑ownership culture focused on building reliable flight hardware.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in mechanical design, development, testing, or a related engineering role. New graduates with relevant project or internship experience are encouraged to apply.
- Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools such as Solid Works.
- Understanding of machine design, mechanics of materials, kinematics, dynamics, and thermodynamics.
- Experience with (or strong interest in) mechanical testing, prototyping, and hands‑on hardware development.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, organizational, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience with precision mechanisms, robotics, electric motors, or high-speed rotating assemblies.
- Exposure to spacecraft systems, ADCS hardware, or electromechanical control systems.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis for structural, thermal, or dynamic applications.
- Experience supporting hardware integration, assembly, environmental testing, or qualification activities.
- Understanding of control systems or control…
