Operations Manager, Production Manager, Manufacturing Engineer

The incumbent will manage 80 people (through 3 supervisors and team leads), both unionized and non-unionized, exercising leadership in accountability, supervision and communication. They will be able to establish an organizational structure to meet monthly objectives. They plan and implement detailed production plans to ensure on-time deliveries to internal and external customers. They supervise team leaders and a number of unionized employees and have full responsibility for their operational budget including labour levels, direct and indirect costs, and equipment.
They hold product meetings with program and product managers and provide information about their Operations area to business unit leaders. They define material cost and quality strategies for their products. The manufacturing manager acts as a change agent to improve their area's metrics and achieve Operations objectives.

- Improve processes to meet profit margins and propose solutions
- Manage workforce for the area:
Administer hiring requisitions - Participate in the recruitment process for vacant positions
- Manage performance processes for unionized employees and managers (supervisors, Industrial Methods, PMC)
- Manage overtime
- Analyze cycle times and adjust them as needed
- Plan capacity in terms of human resources and equipment
- Administer and apply collective agreements:
Manage grievance settlements - Participate in job description analyses
- Participate in preparatory meetings for collective bargaining
- Develop training plans for all personnel:
Analyze existing training programs, modify them and develop new ones to meet growing flexibility needs - Develop methods to evaluate progression
- Keep competency matrices up to date
- Manage sales and maintain forecasts for the area:
Establish forecasts and risks for these programs - Participate in customer order review meetings
- Participate in delivery planning meetings
- Follow up on materials and ensure prompt action by purchasing, receiving and incoming inspection departments
- Meet raw material and finished goods inventory objectives:
Follow company guidelines for WIP management (60 days) and other inventory reduction targets. Set production plans to achieve turnover objectives - Consolidate WIP and finished goods movements with the program manager
- Ensure compliance with good manufacturing practices:
Produce guidelines based on production plans. Set priorities and follow up on Industrial Methods activities - Hold information sessions to eliminate defects encountered during manufacturing
- Obtain engineering support as needed
- Validate existing processes
- Productivity and transformation:
Develop new manufacturing processes maximizing Lean approaches. Use Industrial Methods to optimize the department while exercising required leadership - Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for the area and ensure progress according to company objectives
- Participate in product line director meetings
- Facilitate and participate in internal and external audits:
Participate in meetings and visits. Analyze issued reports. Implement measures to satisfy corrective action requests - Manage the departmental budget:
Manage monthly expenses vs budget and set guidelines to meet budgetary objectives. Develop a manufacturing strategy and plan equipment capitalization projects. Maximize equipment utilization. Manage equipment calibration processes and implement means to ensure follow-up - Ensure compliance with Health & Safety policies:
Provide and maintain personal protective equipment and machinery safeguards. Enforce safety instructions within the group. Participate in Health & Safety meetings
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a relevant discipline; a university degree in management is an asset
- Minimum eight (8) years of experience in electronic manufacturing (PCB) in a multi-product environment
- Minimum five (5) years of experience managing a multidisciplinary manufacturing team
- Strong experience in manufacturing within the aerospace and/or high-technology industry
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams across program management, engineering and production
- Experience in a unionized environment
