Compensation Pay Range: $30.41-$37.35
Position Summary  The Registered Nurse Practice (Practical) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for individual patients and families in an integrated, multidisciplinary team. The nurse works independently and in conjunction with physicians and team members in the clinic to ensure efficient operations. Availability to work days, evenings, and weekends is expected. The role focuses on supporting children and youth with respiratory conditions, especially asthma, and coordinating care across services.
Main Responsibilities   Assess the patient (e.g., results from lab, x‑ray, or pathology; status of drug or incision; additional clinical nursing data; vital signs; measurements; and collect specimens).
Assist the team with procedures.
Monitor the patient pre- and post‑procedures as required.
Administer medication within scope of practice.
Assist with managing work queues and triaging new referrals for urgency, as required.
Receive calls and virtual (email/in‑basket) communications from parents, obtain required information, and respond or redirect inquiries.
Coordinate care with home care and other health professionals and specialists, as required.
Provide instructions (written or oral) to patients and families as required, including teaching for procedures, specimen collection, or discharge teaching.
Provide emotional support to patients and families.
Maintain documentation according to CHEO policies and procedures.
Maintain equipment and report any malfunctions.
Order and restock supplies; check expiry dates on supplies and medications.
Check resuscitation cart.
Have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Perform other tasks as the role evolves.
Qualifications    Essential:  Vulnerable Sector Check.
Essential:  Current registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario.
Essential:  Current BCLS.
Essential:  Medication administration course.
Essential:  Knowledge of safe medication administration and reconciliation.
Essential:  Excellent interpersonal skills.
Essential:  Ability to work as an active member of the health‑care team.
Essential:  Comfort communicating orally and in writing with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines.
Essential:  Willingness to participate in self‑evaluation.
Essential:  Ability to participate in patient teaching.
Essential:  Commitment to continuous Quality Improvement.
Essential:  Understanding of aseptic technique with application in the clinical setting.
Essential:  Ability to maintain clinic throughput by performing nursing functions such as rooming patients, nursing assessment and documentation.
Essential:  Bilingual in French and English.
Preferred:  Minimum two years pediatric experience.
Preferred:  Ambulatory Care experience.
