SOUTHAMPTON UNION AFFILIATION: OPSEU – SERVICE STATUS: FULL-TIME REASON TO POST: DIRECT REPLACEMENT WAGE RATE: $37.071 - $38.157
Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works collaboratively in an inter-disciplinary team to provide patient care within their professional scope of practice while working in the Emergency department.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired:
- Ontario College of Nurses registration
- Current certification in or willingness to obtain:
- BCLS
- Two (2) years recent acute care nursing experience
- Current understanding of the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scales (CTAS)
- Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
- CCU 1 or willingness to obtain in six (6) months
- Code White (CPI certification) or willingness to obtain
- Ability to work at full scope of practice as defined by the Emergency Program, ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Demonstrated Competence in the performance of the following skills: ECG, arrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy (including maintenance, IV starts and medication administration), care and maintenance of CVADs, splinting, oral, IM, sc medication administration, wound care, urinary catheterization, suture/staple removal, measuring for crutches, application of orthopedic immobilization devices
- Experience with POCT, CBGM, urine testing and urine pregnancy testing, blood collection and lab specimen processing for transport
- Power chart and order entry
- Excellent organizational and patient assessment skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals
- Excellent problem-solving, decision‑making and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to continuing education and professional development
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

- Two (2) years recent Emergency experience preferred
