RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
The DERIVE (DEvelopmental Research on Interactions between Variants and the Environment) research program is looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team. DERIVE is an interdisciplinary research program investigating how genetic variants and environmental exposures shape the developmental origins of disease. This role involves supporting cell culture and animal experiments by preparing reagents and performing a range of molecular, cell biology and histological techniques.
General Duties
• Maintain and culture mammalian cell lines and iPSCs,
• Generate CRISPR/Cas9-edited iPSC lines,
• Perform tissue sectioning, histological and immunofluorescence staining, microscopy (brightfield, epifluorescence and confocal), qPCR, and related experimental techniques as required,
• Perform mouse husbandry-related procedures, including breeding and timed matings, colony maintenance, euthanasia, and dissections,
• Optimize, troubleshoot and refine experimental protocols as needed,
• Accurately document experimental results, analyse data and interpret findings,
• Compile data and present experimental updates to the team,
• Prepare stock solutions and aliquots,
• Oversee the inventory of lab reagents and place lab orders as required,
• Clean and maintain lab equipment,
• Dispose of chemical waste in accordance with institutional safety guidelines,
• Support general laboratory operations and administrative tasks as needed.

Master's Degree
Work Experience:
Minimum of one year working in a research laboratory.
Required Skills
• Proficiency in cell culture, histology, immunofluorescence and microscopy,
• Experience working with animal models and tissue dissection,
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English,
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision,
• Excellent organisational skills, including meticulous experiment record-keeping,
• Effective planning, prioritisation and time-management skills,
• Sharp analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot and optimise experimental protocols,
• Proficiency in data analysis and visualisation using MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Graph Pad Prism, and Image
J.
• Experience conducting bioinformatic analyses in a command-line environment such as R would be an asset.
• Flexibility to work varied hours as required, including weekends.
