Our Guiding Principles
There is an urgent need for concerted efforts and investments toward the revitalization of Indigenous languages to arrest and reverse the erosion that has already occurred. Research shows that no Indigenous language in Canada is safe and that all are in varying stages of endangerment.
Indigenous languages are fundamental to the identities, cultures, spirituality, relationships to the land, worldviews, and self-determination of Indigenous peoples.
Indigenous languages have and continue to contribute to the strength of Canada as a whole, including biodiversity and the richness of linguistic and cultural heritage. The Commission is committed to protecting the vitality of all Indigenous languages, including sign languages and sleeping languages.

About the Role
The Information Management Officer (IMO) is responsible for the governance, organization, protection, and lifecycle management of the organization's information assets — both physical and electronic. Working closely with the IMIT Lead, the IMO develops and maintains recordkeeping standards, data structures, and classification systems; safeguards information repositories; and advises staff and management on information management best practices and compliance obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Data Governance & Protection
Ensure cloud-stored data is properly organized, tagged, and easily retrievable — including labeling/classification work done in conjunction with the IMIT Lead (e.g., Microsoft Purview) as well as manual tagging by staff.
Train staff on manual data tagging and classification practices to keep information consistently protected.
Support Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies through proper classification, tagging, and handling of data.
Policy, Procedure & Documentation
Review, and maintain information management policies, procedures, and documentation; provide recommendations and assist in development of new processes as gaps are identified.
Draft and maintain Information Management Administrative Instructions and related documentation.
Maintain file plans and classification structures and catalogue records accordingly.
Storage, Archiving & Disposal
Assist with storage requirements, archival, and destruction/disposal of records, both electronic and physical.
Recommend and implement improvements to storage, retrieval, archiving, and disposal processes, coordinating with the IMIT Lead on infrastructure needs.
Compliance, Security & Continuity
Collaborate with the IMIT Lead to safeguard information repositories and support information security systems.
Monitor and audit information management practices for compliance; coordinate responses to information requests and data breaches.
Identify and manage essential records within emergency preparedness and business continuity frameworks.
Stay up to date on new legislative requirements.
