Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Settlement Counsellor will support clients throughout the City of Ottawa in meeting their immediate settlement needs by providing information, orientation, and referrals to community resources.

Hourly rate: $30.69 - $34.55

Duties & Responsibilities
Provide information, orientation, and referrals to clients through one‑on‑one and group sessions.
Coordinate the provision of services through case management, needs assessment, settlement action plans, and advocacy.
Connect clients with specific settlement needs to existing resources in the community.
Interpret and translate for clients to access services and meet immediate settlement needs.
Prepare clients to actively access networks and navigate Canadian systems.
Provide reports and document services as requested by the Settlement Manager.
Develop and facilitate workshops and group sessions.
Outreach to clients and service providers.
Participate in meetings and activities that promote understanding of newcomers.
Maintain accurate service records and program documentation.
Other duties assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Post‑secondary education in a Social Services field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of services and resources available to assist newcomers to Canada.
At least two years of experience in a social service setting. Familiarity with settlement processes is a strong asset.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and a high degree of cross-cultural competence.
Experience assessing client needs to provide appropriate service and referrals.
Experience facilitating groups and workshops.
Skilled at de‑escalation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
Ability to perform duties independently and with minimal supervision.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to function in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workplace.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
Fluency in English is required. Fluency in other languages is a strong asset.
