Position: GSS Counsellor Role in Ottawa
Join Canadian Hearing Services as a GSS Counsellor based in Ottawa. Use your expertise to support culturally Deaf and hard of hearing individuals and their families in accessing vital services.

In this 9-month contract position, you will report to the Program Manager and provide individualized support to adults aged 16 and older.

Your role will focus on fostering independence within the community by addressing challenges related to services like housing, work, and social interactions. A strong foundation in counseling, particularly within the Deaf community, is essential for this impactful role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individual support services to adults aged 16+

• Advocate for accessibility in community settings

• Assist clients in accessing necessary services and supports

• Promote awareness of Deaf and hard of hearing issues

• Collaborate with families for effective support

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or equivalent

• 2-3 years of relevant counseling experience

• Knowledge of landlord-tenant and income support issues

• Proficiency in American Sign Language is an asset

• Strong communication and organizational skills
