Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for efficiently executing and scheduling the delivery of ocean container freight to support on-time performance. The incumbent receives delivery orders from external sources, coordinates directly with customers to confirm delivery schedules, and works closely with CN dispatch to align transportation activities and manage port reservations. The role includes tracking and tracing the arrival of empty containers into CN terminals to support timely movement and visibility.

The incumbent also processes payables and submits invoice requests with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Main Responsibilities Customer Focus
  • Ensure all exports, imports, and empty containers are scheduled to meet on-time delivery requirements to ports and depots.
  • Liaise between steamship lines, ports, depots, CN terminals, and customers to support vessel receiving windows and delivery requirements.
  • Maintain proactive communication with customers, CN terminals, dispatch, ports, and depots to support service reliability and on-time execution.
  • Rebook deliveries promptly when exceptions, schedule changes, or service disruptions occur.
  • Capture and maintain operational metrics to support customer service, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Internal Coordination
  • Source empty containers from depots and ports to support export bookings and customer delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate with CN terminals and dispatch to plan transportation activities, deramp requirements, and container movements.
  • Report required driver volumes and equipment needs to dispatch for next-day delivery planning.
  • Coordinate with CN Warehouse, Import, and Dispatch teams on export bookings, inbound train arrivals, and required shuttle services.
  • Provide dispatch with pre-load information for the following day to support effective planning and execution.
  • Monitor container arrivals and coordinate the evacuation of empty containers from yard locations to ports and depots in the Greater Vancouver area.
  • Secure port reservations and schedule delivery of empty containers to transload facilities while meeting port reservation requirements and vessel cut-off timelines.
  • Capture and maintain operational metrics for customer service and performance tracking to support continuous improvement of the customer experience.
Port Reservations and Delivery Scheduling
  • Secure port reservations to support timely delivery of empty containers and ocean container freight.
  • Schedule deliveries to transload facilities and coordinate timing to meet port reservations prior to vessel cut-off.
  • Maintain delivery visibility and communicate schedule updates to customers, CN terminals, dispatch, ports, and depots as required.
Invoicing and Payables
  • Invoice customers and approve external cartage provider invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Process payables and submit invoice requests with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ensure applicable costs and service details are accurately captured before billing.
  • Maintain accurate records and data entry to support invoicing, payable processing, and performance reporting.

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday and is eligible to participate in CN’s hybrid work model. The incumbent must be available to work overtime and weekends when necessary. The role involves managing priorities and delivering work within established timelines, with support from the team to ensure sustainable and effective workload management.
