To become a Lifeguard, you need to be at least 15 years old and have an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate. We offer Lifeguard certification classes regularly. If you're interested, you must pass a swim pre-test before registering. The pre-test includes three components, which you can view on You Tube or search for 'American Red Cross Lifeguard pre-test'. Once ready, contact Matt Brickey at # or , or Hailee Wright at # or to take the test and qualify for the class.

General Statement of Duties:Under general supervision, performs monitoring activities at the Aquatic Center to prevent accidents, assist participants, and ensure patron safety. Responds to emergencies or incidents that could lead to unsafe situations.
Supervision Exercised:May assist in supervising volunteers and Swim Aides.
Supervision Received:Works under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Aquatics Leader, and Lead Lifeguards.
Essential Duties:- Scans the entire aquatic complex and monitors patron behavior for safety.
- Enforces pool regulations and communicates safety rules to patrons.
- Patrols areas like concessions, therapy pool, hot tub, deck, water slides for proper usage.
- Responds swiftly to emergencies, water distress, accidents, and misconduct.
- Administers first aid/CPR and completes reports.
- Performs routine maintenance and cleaning, such as sweeping decks, cleaning equipment, and organizing storage.
- Maintains records of cleaning, attendance, and timesheets.
- Assists with setup for events and programs.
- Attends staff meetings, training sessions, and re-certification courses.
- Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Knowledge of water safety and swimming techniques.
- Enthusiastic and friendly attitude towards aquatic work.
- Ability to perform water rescues competently.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to complete reports and records accurately.
- Creativity in conducting engaging aquatic activities.
- Teamwork and cooperation skills.
- Flexibility to adapt quickly to new situations.
- Effective communication skills with participants, staff, and the public.
- Good judgment in daily decision-making.
Required:
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid.
