Position: Onboard Engineer (AEC 1 and 2)

Location
  • Onboard our fleet of vessels operating throughout Northern Europe.
Core Purpose
  • Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and performance of the vessel’s machinery and engineering systems, ensuring they operate efficiently and in compliance with statutory, company, and environmental requirements.
  • Working closely with the Master and wider vessel crew to support the safe execution of marine, cargo, and operational activities while maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Engineering and Maintenance:

  • Ensure the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of all vessel machinery and engineering systems.
  • Monitor machinery performance and conduct routine checks to ensure equipment operates within specified limits.
  • Notify the Master immediately of any defects or issues that could affect the safety of the vessel, crew, or environment.
  • Maintain machinery spaces in a clean, safe, and orderly condition always.
  • Monitor and record machinery running hours, fuel consumption, and lubricating oil usage.
  • Ensure adequate stocks of fuel, lubricants, critical spare parts, and consumables are maintained for the safe completion of voyages.
  • Supervise the bunkering of fuel and lubricating oils in accordance with company procedures and environmental requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate maintenance records, defect reports, and engineering documentation.
  • Identify maintenance requirements and coordinate shore-based labour or specialist contractors where necessary, supervising work undertaken onboard.
  • Assist with the planning and supervision of major vessel refits, repairs, and maintenance periods.

Vessel Operations:

  • Support safe mooring and unmooring operations.
  • Assist with cargo handling, crane operations, loading, unloading, and vessel stores as required.
  • Support vessel refuelling operations and the refuelling of company assets where required.
  • Participate in emergency drills and contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
  • Undertake additional operational duties as directed by the Master.
Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of one year's experience in a similar marine engineering role.
  • Experience working on offshore support or workboats.
  • Sound knowledge of marine engineering systems, planned maintenance, and vessel operations.
  • Strong understanding of machinery fault finding, preventative maintenance, and engineering best practices.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and prioritise workloads.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary crew.
  • Calm, professional, and safety-focused approach in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable with a willingness to support a range of vessel operations.
Qualifications
  • AEC Part 1 and AEC Part 2.
  • Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certification.
  • Valid ENG1 Seafarer’s Medical Certificate (or equivalent recognised seafarer’s medical certification).
  • Slinger/Signaller (Banksman) certification completed within the last five years.
