Classroom Behavior Specialist

Summary

In collaboration with the classroom team, responsible for assisting the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of effective academic and social‑emotional programming for assigned students.

• Assists in the formulation of social‑emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs.
• Implements social‑emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs, including assistance with daily life activities such as toileting and self‑care.
• Collects and manages data on social‑emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
• Prepares and presents verbal and/or written reports concerning social‑emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
• Assists in implementation of the academic and social‑emotional curricula as directed by the classroom teacher and team leader.
• Provides academic support to students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Prepares and submits required paperwork for the student record.
• Attends and participates in classroom team meetings, student‑related meetings, supervisory sessions, staff meetings, and other assigned meetings.
• Observes all Bradley Schools policies, rules, and regulations.
• Performs other duties as required, assigned, or directed.

• Baccalaureate Degree preferred with a major in education or related human service fields.
• Basic knowledge of data entry/management programs such as Excel; training will be provided upon hire for those without this background.

• Bradley Hospital Safety Care Certification.
• Prior experience working with children is helpful.
• Ability to work independently within department policies and practices; referral of complex problems to supervisor.
• Experience in a psychiatric setting under stressful conditions; demonstrated use of de‑escalation techniques and ability to remain calm during crises.
• Physical ability to lift up to fifty pounds, reach, grasp, bend/squat/kneel without limitation, and physically escort students who may become combative for short distances.
