Responsible for assisting physicians/providers with patient care, rooming patients, and performing clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the practice services. Conveys a positive image of the practice. The Medical Assistant II, as a result of experience, training, and proficiency in the department, is able to perform all requirements of the position at a competent level.

Responsibilities- 1. Performs patient care responsibilities as assigned. 1.1. Identifies self to patient/family and explains to patient/family the roles of each member of the care delivery team. 1.2. Accompanies patients to the exam/procedure room. 1.3. Prepares patients for visit. 1.4. Consistently documents professionally, accurately, and completely. 1.5. Ensures that patient records are prepped accurately and completely prior to the visits. 1.6. Performs screening per physician/provider guidelines.
1.7. Assists physicians/providers with various procedures. 1.8. Obtain pre-authorizations when necessary. 1.9. Conveys instructions to patients/family members/caregivers. 1.10. Provides appropriate resource materials and referrals to patient/family as instructed by physician/provider. 1.11. Maintains patient records effectively. 1.12. Efficiently manages and routinely checks the EPIC in-basket. 1.13. Answers and returns calls promptly and provides pertinent information. 1.14. Provides patient care and compassion above and beyond the minimal requirements.
1.15. Demonstrates strong clinical competency in the department. - 2. Performs administrative responsibilities as assigned. 2.1. Sends/receives patient medical records and abstracts new patient records into EPIC. 2.2. Obtains lab/radiology reports, hospital notes, and referral information as requested. 2.3. Completes forms/requisitions as needed. 2.4. Proficient in front desk duties, including but not limited to greeting patients/visitors, answering calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining/scanning patient medical records.
- 3. Performs environmental responsibilities as assigned. 3.1. Sets up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. 3.2. Applies principles of infection control. 3.3. Cleans exam/procedures rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control following established department policy. 3.4. Cleans the sterilizer (when applicable) according to the scheduled maintenance program and maintains appropriate documentation. 3.5. Orders, sorts, and stores supplies following established department policy.
3.6. Reports inadequate supplies, faulty equipment, and environmental problems to appropriate person. 3.7. Performs environmental and OSHA regulatory compliance and documents in clinical equipment logs as required by department. - 4. Performs other related organizational duties as assigned. 4.1. Maintains patient autonomy, confidentiality, and dignity. 4.2. Ensures providers submit timely and accurate billing. 4.3. Maintains knowledge of practice policy, HIPAA, current coding, OSHA regulations and CLIA regulations (where applicable). 4.4. Provides prompt attention to urgent and non‑urgent patient issues as evidenced by observation and feedback from staff. 4.5. Quickly shares problems related to patients and/or staff with the supervisor.
4.6. Takes the lead with Care Coordinator for Patient Centered Medical Home initiatives. 4.7. Attend and actively participate in staff meetings. 4.8. Collaborates in the development and delivery of programs and activities for individuals, families, and population groups that promote health and prevent disease. 4.9.
