Position Summary
This entry‑level Convention Services/Catering position is responsible for booking catering‑only events, coordinating room‑only bookings, and assisting with Destination Services. The role monitors accuracy of physical sets within meeting spaces and manages group sizing to enhance guest experience and revenue.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Responsible for planning, up‑selling and detailing of events from pre to post convention.
- Coordinating customer expectations, goals & objectives including food & beverage, sleeping accommodations, transportation, audio visual, banquet room sets, entertainment, décor, billing, recreation and any special needs a group may require and communicating these requirements with all related departments.
- Reviews and communicates details of contracts, prepares Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and Group Specification Guidelines (group resumes).
- Manages space requirements, guestroom blocks, scheduling, ordering of equipment and billing instructions.
- Attends all scheduled departmental and event‑related meetings.
- Provides customers with creative suggestions for innovative room sets, menus and event production.
- Initiates and follows up on assigned leads.
- Maintains complete knowledge of and compliance with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.
- Maintains positive guest relations at all times.
- Resolves guest complaints and ensures guest satisfaction.
- Monitors accuracy of physical sets within meeting space according to BEOs and diagrams, including room temperature, cleanliness and maintenance of convention space.
- Remains visible and available providing direction to guests as a first resource within the convention and expo center.
- Handles daily changes and additional requests of on‑site guests.
- Locates, receives and delivers packages to groups and exhibitors within the group.
- Logs and maintains all transactions of package handling.
- Monitors operations of all departments assisting guests while on property to ensure a smoothly run program.
- Works cohesively with co‑workers as part of a team.
- Maintains confidentiality of guest information and pertinent departmental data.
- Advocates the company’s Mission, Vision and Core Values on a consistent basis.
- Plans and coordinates with outside vendors to ensure successful programming for the group.
- Assists with compliance of all Fire Marshall regulations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality, Business Administration or a related field preferred.
- Three years of experience in convention services or catering sales for a hotel with no less than 500 rooms.
- Must have experience developing and maintaining business contracts, including the ability to evaluate, decipher contract details and support and maintain the integrity of the contacts.
- In lieu of a Degree and previously mentioned experience, five years in convention services or catering sales for a hotel with no less than 500 rooms.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Word and Excel.
- Basic understanding of Mohegan Sun budget process.
- Possesses sound business judgment, a high degree of personal motivation and a very strong work ethic.
- Ability to effectively and strategically manage business segments of responsibility to protect primary revenue stream that comes from gaming.
- Overall understanding of revenue management and its utilization to drive bottom line profit.
- Ability to handle problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving them.
- Thorough understanding of the Mohegan Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO) as it relates to employment.
- Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy.
- Thinks clearly, remains calm and resolves issues using good judgment.
- Thorough knowledge of meeting space and all areas of the casino.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of all departments related to Banquets and Conventions.
- Knowledge of Mohegan Sun corporate and department policies and procedures.
