WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full‑Time Bridge Inspection Team Leader
! This position can sit out of our Mooresville, NC
, Raleigh, NC
, Greenville, SC or Columbia, SC offices.
This Opportunity
:
The role will support our robust and growing Bridge Inspection Practice in the Southeast Region, enabling you to be involved in projects, grow a strong team, and advance within the organization while meeting client objectives.
- Plan, schedule and perform bridge inspections in accordance with the requirements of Bridge Owners and the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
- Use engineering and technical knowledge to inspect bridges throughout the Southeast for deterioration and structural damage, ensuring public safety.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise bridge inspection reports using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site logs.
- Perform engineering calculations on bridge repair designs, load ratings, and construction inspections.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures.
- Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a construction‑related discipline or relevant experience;
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. - 3+ years of bridge design and/or bridge inspection experience.
- NHI Course 130055 Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges Certificate.
- Strong attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Physically capable of field work, including climbing ladders (40 ft or less) and working in adverse weather.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools.
- Willing to work schedules beyond a typical workweek and travel/overnight travel as required.
- Commitment to workplace safety and WSP’s safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Authorized to work in the United States immediately.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Additional FHWA/NHI Training – 130078 Bridge Inspection Techniques for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members (NSTM).
- Experience with drafting software (AutoCAD, Micro Station, etc.).
- Experience with engineering calculation software (AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR), Mathcad, SAP
2000, etc.). - Comfortable working at heights (40 ft+) and interest in rope work (SPRAT Certification).
- Enjoys outdoor work and traveling.
- Experience with inspecting complex bridges.
- FAA Part 107 certification or interest in UAS drone flying.
- Familiarity with or certifications in various NDT techniques.
- Interest in programming and/or experience with data analytics or APIs.
