Job Summary:

The Motorsports Electrical Systems Technician is responsible for the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of vehicle electrical systems to ensure maximum reliability and performance under demanding race conditions. This role supports both shop-based preparation and trackside execution, ensuring all electrical components function seamlessly during races, tests, and events. The position requires a methodical approach, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced motorsports environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, route, and secure electrical harnesses and connectors to ensure consistent and reliable performance in high-stress race environments.
  • Support rapid turnaround during race weekends by quickly identifying, diagnosing, and resolving electrical issues across all vehicle systems.
  • Documentation & Traceability:
    Maintain accurate records of wiring layouts, harness configurations, component serial numbers, and repair histories to ensure repeatable quality and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Ensure proper labeling, organization, and stock levels of wiring components, connectors, terminals, sensors, and spares.
  • Assist in the design, installation, and testing of new wiring harnesses, dash panels, switch assemblies, and control systems.
  • Collaborate with outside vendors and suppliers on custom harness builds, connectors, and new system implementations from design through completion.
  • Support basic testing, verification, and data collection for electrical and electronic system components; assist engineers in evaluating sensor or system performance.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance reliability, serviceability, and standardization of electrical systems across vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong technical aptitude with electrical systems, wiring schematics, and connectors.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, crimping, soldering, and circuit testing equipment.
  • Experience with motor sport or high-performance automotive electrical systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, ECU wiring, CAN bus communications, and power distribution systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, including weekends and extended travel for race events.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and record keeping.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, fabrication, and at-track operations.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or certification in Automotive Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Equivalent hands-on experience in motor sport, automotive, or aerospace electrical systems may substitute for formal education.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical system assembly, wiring harness fabrication, or vehicle electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience working within a professional motorsports environment (NASCAR, Indy Car, IMSA, F1, etc.) or a high-performance automotive or aerospace environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and connector pinouts.
  • Demonstrated track record supporting at-track troubleshooting, rapid repairs, and system validation under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Experience with data acquisition, ECU calibration interfaces, or CAN/LIN communication systems is advantageous.
