The Planner II or III performs responsible, professional work requiring independent judgment and technical expertise in a wide range of planning functions, including land development, current planning, ordinance administration, long-range planning, GIS, transportation planning, community development, and code enforcement.
Depending on level and assignment, this position may supervise staff and provide oversight of core processes such as current planning, code enforcement, long-range planning, transportation planning, GIS, and community development.
This role represents a key position in supporting Mooresville’s continued growth and development, ensuring projects align with the Town’s policies, ordinances, and vision for the future.
Ensure private development, Town projects, and regional initiatives follow adopted plans, ordinances, and policies governing land use and development within the Town’s jurisdiction.
Administer the Town’s Zoning Ordinance, applicable sections of the General Code, and other policy documents related to land use, community development, and affordable housing.
Work closely with developers, property owners, consultants, and the public to facilitate meetings, gain input, and ensure compliance with Town policies.
Serve as staff liaison to various Town boards and commissions, such as the Planning Board, Board of Adjustments, Historic Preservation Commission, Environmental Protection Commission, Beautification Committee, or others as assigned.
Prepare and present reports, analyses, and recommendations to boards, committees, and elected officials.
Conduct research, prepare studies, and draft ordinances, policies, and plans addressing community development, land use, and transportation.
Manage special projects and coordinate consultant contracts related to comprehensive planning, community development, housing, or transportation.
Review technical reports, studies, and analyses related to zoning, traffic, housing, or environmental impact.
Apply for and manage grants, ensuring documentation and compliance with applicable regulations.
Coordinate and manage land development and zoning administration processes, including rezonings and conditional use permits.
Oversee staff assignments, project prioritization, and performance evaluations as applicable.
Perform related duties as required.
