Summary:
Operation of sonographic equipment, perform and communicate results of diagnostic examinations using sonography.
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with departmental policy. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures based on anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
- Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to differentiate between normal and pathologic findings; analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information with medical history, and communicates findings to the Radiologist.
- Ensures patient safety and comfort, communicates effectively with patients and the health care team, and assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department.
- Completes exam tracking and billing accurately; maintains ultrasound equipment and work area; coordinates with staff to ensure patient care is provided.
- Assists in training ultrasound students during clinical rotations and provides direction and instruction to existing personnel; may participate in teaching of ultrasound technology to new physicians, residents, and fellows.
- Participates in maintenance of lab accreditation and reports equipment failures to the supervisor or designated staff; performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Level I:
Obtain ARDMS certifications as required by each entity within 18 months of employment. - Level II:
Minimum of two years experience as a Sonographer. - Level III:
Minimum of 4 years experience in the specialty modality. - Proficient in ultrasound procedures and able to operate independently.
- Education:
Graduation from a program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification or currently holds required registry or certification. - Experience:
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) Highly Preferred. - Licenses/Certifications:
ARDMS certification within 18 months of hire; BLS certification. RVT highly preferred.
