The smallest of Duke Health’s four hospitals at 123 beds, it offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including 24‑hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women’s services, and surgical specialties.
SummarySupport the following performance management and improvement services for Duke University Hospital, Duke Health Raleigh Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital, and other entities within the Duke University Health System: productivity management system, labor budgeting and productivity/process analyses and improvement. Operate with senior leadership to provide focused analyses or improvement efforts and manage administrative projects. Decision support includes clinical decision support and ongoing performance improvement support.
Manage performance reporting, balanced scorecard and related metrics. Support patient satisfaction initiatives and performance improvement projects. Position spans three levels with varying autonomy, accountability, and interaction.
Hours:
Day shift Monday‑Friday. In‑person preferred.
Management Engineering:
Development and maintenance of labor standards used to develop departmental staffing requirements. Standards also serve as procedural labor standards for Cost Accounting and budgeting. Support hospital leadership in productivity improvement, analyze departments and processes, and perform labor variance analyses to meet productivity goals.
Operational Support:
Project management and analytical support for operational initiatives.
Decision Support and Performance Reporting:
Develop and conduct clinical analyses to improve care management, coordinate improvement processes, and provide routine reporting on quality and patient safety metrics. Support balanced scorecard reporting.
Patient Satisfaction:
Coordinate and support improvement efforts to enhance patient satisfaction scores.
Performance Improvement:
Lead performance improvement teams or provide analytical support as required.
Skills and Abilities
Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills, including database analysis.
Level CharacteristicsLevel 2 – Works under general supervision, receives guidance, interacts with staff and leadership, defines priorities, actively supports improvement work.
Level 3 – Works autonomously, sets own priorities, evaluates progress, interacts with leadership, leads improvement work.
Level 4 – Works autonomously, coordinates services, supervises up to two staff, consults with managers and directors, defines priorities, leads performance services, and facilitates improvement efforts.
Minimum Qualifications EducationLevel 2:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field;
Master’s degree desired.
Level 3:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field;
Master’s degree desired.
Level 4:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field;
Master’s degree desired.
Level 2:
Minimum of 4 years of PS or related experience;
Master’s may substitute 2 years of experience, or 2 years of Duke ME I experience.
Level 3:
Minimum of 6 years of PS or related experience;
Master’s may substitute 2 years per level.
Level 4:
Minimum of 6 years of PS or related experience;
Master’s may substitute 2 years per level or advanced technical training may replace experience.
