Description

Position Summary
Performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of materials for quality control, process control or product development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, dilatometers, chemical balance scales, high temperature furnaces, optical measurement systems, and particle size analyzers.
  • Test materials used in Honeyceram manufacturing to determine moisture content, WAB, ESP, ISO, BSP, barcode readability, particle size, sieve residue and other physical characteristics.
  • Test samples of manufactured Honeyceram to verify conformity to customer specifications.
  • Record test results on standardized forms and enter data into the company’s information systems.
  • Clean laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare chemical solutions for tests.
  • Work safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; and using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings.
  • Participate in G5S activities, PM and MMOL activities as needed.
  • Follow all EMS procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials.
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Qualifications Required

    Education and Experience
    • Must successfully complete all required job training.
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • CRC Silver or higher.
    Preferred Experience
    • Background in laboratory testing.
    Language Skills
    • Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Complete forms and documents; write legibly.
    Mathematical Skills
    • Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division in all units of measure using whole numbers and decimals.
    Reasoning Ability
    • Apply common sense to carry out written or diagram instructions.
    • Deal with problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
    Computer Skills
    • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    Additional Skills
    • Read gauges and scales.
    Physical Demands
    • Stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
    • Occasionally sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch.
    • Manual dexterity required for handling sensitive lab equipment.
    • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.
    • Required visual acuity: 20/20 near point vision and 20/40 far point vision; close, distance, depth perception and focus adjustment required.
    Work Environment
    • Frequently exposed to vibration.
    • Regular exposure to heat.
    • Occasional exposure to radiation, fumes or airborne particles.
    • Moderate noise level.
    Safety Requirements/PPE
    • Safety glasses (with side shields), hearing protection, goggles or full face shield while performing certain duties.
    • Task‑appropriate gloves or mitts (latex, cloth, heat‑resistant).
    • Respirators may be required.
    • Heat‑resistant, protective or safety aprons required.
    • Regular vision testing performed.
    • Safety shoes required on NGK property.
