Clinical Nurse Educator – Duke Health Lake Norman
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) will provide education and support for Emergency Department (ED) and Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) teams at Duke Health Lake Norman. This role includes oversight of the ED Nurse Residency Program, instruction in American Heart Association courses (BLS, ACLS, PALS), delivery of the de‑escalation course, and serving as the restraint master trainer for the facility. The CNE will collaborate with clinical leadership to ensure staff competency, promote evidence‑based practice, and foster professional development across supported units.
Shift: M‑F with occasional early morning availability as well as an occasional Saturday
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) across the entities of Duke Medicine by providing staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leaders and researcher. Each supports the development of the bedside nurse, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidence‑based nursing practice. This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development.
In addition, as a role model of professional behaviour, the CNE is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate within Duke Medicine to meet the needs of the diverse units within DUHS and the global needs of Duke Medicine. Must be able to withstand physical activity which includes the ability to move or lift at least 50 pounds. Travel may be required to facilitate collaboration with entities across Duke Medicine.

- Conduct needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools
- Assist learners in the assessment of needs and identification of outcomes
- Incorporate principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs
- Coordinate orientation of new staff to the organization
- Develop/coordinate education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation
- Develop/coordinate core education to address patient population specific nursing care
- Develop/coordinate core education for the development of bedside leaders
- Plan, prepare and maintain materials for use in educational programs for accuracy and relevance to the target audience
- Identify and evaluate instructional materials in all types of media and formats
- Adjust content and teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs
- Provide educational opportunities that benefit nurses at all stages of their career development
- Deliver competence‑based programs for nursing staff with a focus upon improvement of skills and retention of knowledge
