WHAT WE OFFER
- General Salary Increase: 3.5 % effective December 20, 2026, and December 19, 2027.
- Educational Incentive: 2.5% for an associate degree, 3.5% for a bachelor’s degree, 5% for a graduate degree (not required for the classification).
- Bilingual Incentive: Optional, based on operational need and certification. Levels: $0.69/hr (I), $1.00/hr (II), $1.32/hr (III).
- Professional License Incentive: 5% if applicable.

Under general supervision, engineers perform progressively complex field and office duties, including supervision of other engineers and technicians. The role may involve a combination of responsibilities across the four departments.

- Assist project engineer on construction and infrastructure projects.
- Review studies and designs for flood control, roads, water, hydrology, sanitation, transportation projects.
- Prepare or review plans, specifications, and recommend feasibility.
- Act as maintenance crew coordinator during emergencies.
- Coordinate complex projects with county agencies and external partners.
- Represent county at meetings and committees.
- Conduct field site inspections and monitor compliance with plans and standards.
- Review compliance of subdivision, road, flood control, and drainage plans.
- Coordinate planning with State Highway Programs, budget preparation, and traffic control programs.
- Supervise subordinate personnel and encroachment permits.
In addition to Engineer I qualifications, at least one year of qualifying professional engineering experience is required.
Engineer III – Additional RequirementsAt least three years of qualifying professional engineering experience, including experience in the specialty assignment area (e.g., water systems, flood protection, stormwater, transport, asset management).
Engineer IV – Additional RequirementsAt least four years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience. A California professional engineer registration is required in most cases; if not, a minimum of five years of experience is required.
Education/Experience- Engineer I: Bachelor's degree in engineering or valid California professional engineer certificate; or Engineer‑in‑Training certificate plus four years of experience; or related science degree plus up to three years of experience.
- Engineer II: Add one year of qualifying experience to Engineer I.
- Engineer III: Add three years of qualifying experience plus specialty area experience to Engineer I.
- Engineer IV: Add four years of qualifying experience plus specialty area experience to Engineer I;
California PE registration required except when waived.
