Overview
The Inspection Engineer is responsible for delivering the inspection programme, reporting, and recording of all plant and equipment within hazardous areas across distillation, spirit processing, and maturation facilities, in accordance with DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) and COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) requirements. The role focuses on ensuring the integrity, compliance, and safe operation of safety‑critical equipment associated with flammable spirits and vapours.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver inspections of plant and equipment in DSEAR/COMAH areas.
- Inspect safety‑critical assets, including ATEX equipment, containment systems, racking/structures, control/mitigation systems, and ECI equipment.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, standards (e.g., BS EN 60079), and company procedures.
- Assess warehouse racking and cask storage integrity.
- Produce accurate reports, certifications, and maintain inspection/asset records.
- Identify defects or non‑compliance and recommend corrective actions.
- Support risk‑based inspection (RBI) and asset integrity strategies.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
- Support regulatory audits (e.g., HSE) and track completion of remedial actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of inspection and safety processes.
- Deliver safe, compliant inspections in line with DSEAR and COMAH.
- Maintain integrity and reliability of safety‑critical assets.
- Support the prevention of major accident hazards through effective inspection and reporting.
- HNC/HND in Engineering (Electrical bias, Mechanical, Materials, or related discipline).
- Experience in inspection, maintenance, or asset integrity.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and safety requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.
- Attention to detail.
- Effective communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Experience working at height, in confined spaces, and in environments with potential hazards.
- Valid driving licence required for operational site travel.
- Salary: £39,000–£49,000.
