The Laboratory Assistant plays a key role within a collaborative team, reporting directly to the Laboratory and Research Project Lead. This position provides essential technical support for distillation processes through routine laboratory analysis, ensuring compliance with established schedules. Additionally, the role offers critical assistance to production operations, including troubleshooting issues, reviewing technical work instructions, and performing accurate laboratory instrument checks to maintain quality standards.

The key responsibilities are:
- To carry out routine analysis of production and research samples using specific test methods
- Ensure the detailed steps of all Procedures and Test Methods are correctly executed.
- Correctly deal with OOS results, confirm the result and follow procedures to deal with any NC.
- Ensure all OOS or NC work is correctly escalated as detailed in the departmental procedures.
- Prioritise routine and research work to operate efficiently in a small technical team.
- Support of Project work and process improvements for lab methods and procedures.
- Complete all tasks assigned from regular laboratory meetings as per timelines set out by Laboratory Manager/ Lab Supervisor.
- Integrity of laboratory results by participation in proficiency schemes.
- Participate in department meetings, communication with team on results, issues and support in problem solving. Participate in departmental change initiatives and continuous Improvement activity.
- Participate in laboratory and site projects.
The ideal candidate will hold a scientific qualification at HNC level or above and possess strong laboratory technical skills. They should be fully competent in standard analytical methods and wet chemistry techniques, although full training will be provided if required. Experience with in the drinks industry, familiarity with company products, and knowledge of analytical techniques are preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and general computer skills is essential.
The role requires the ability to multitask, prioritise effectively, and demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills. Candidates should be able to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently.
