Licensed Practical Nurse - HPTL

Responsibilities
  • Performs nursing skills and procedures according to established criteria of competent practice. Uses correct scientific and formal reasoning in skills performance.
  • Exhibits culture awareness and age-specific care by providing appropriate age and developmental care in a culturally and ethnically sensitive manner. Integrates ethical provisions in nursing practice and delivers care that preserves and respects patients' and families' privacy, confidentiality, and diversity.
  • Maintains a safe physical environment, including properly using and storing equipment and ensuring a hazard-free patient area.
  • Performs all unit routines and requirements as expected. Utilizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based practice in performing specific unit routine requirements.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation timely.
  • Delegates tasks appropriately to other personnel and understands the scope of practice for delegating tasks.
  • Assesses learning needs and provides tailored education to the patient/family regarding care, treatment, and potential risks relevant to the patient. Ensures a comprehensive understanding and documents accordingly.
Education

Graduate from an approved practical nursing program required.

Experience

Previous nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Valid Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) License required. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire required.

Additional certification requirements depend on the assigned department and are outlined in the Health Care Professional Certification Requirement policy.

Physical/Work Requirements
  • Employee must regularly sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Must communicate with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Must stand, walk, and be on foot for long periods. Must tolerate PPE for long periods.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision for reading and computer work.
  • Works in an area with good lighting and climate control. Noise level usually moderate.
