The Surgery Attendant contributes to implementing the perioperative nursing plan of care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Responsibilities- Performs safe patient transfer/transport procedures.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the perioperative area.
- Adheres to principles of aseptic technique.
- Performs nursing tasks assigned by the nurse to promote perioperative nursing care.
- Contributes to the efficiency of the department.
- Maintains and communicates accurate patient appointments according to established procedures, with changes made as appropriate.
- Admits/Registers patients according to established procedure.
- Uses the organization’s resources and equipment to enhance communication between ancillary departments, surgical services, and the community.
- Unpacks and distributes surgical supplies delivered from the stock room.
- Keeps surgical materials organized and stocked according to par levels.
- Communicates daily with leadership concerning supply needs or other related issues.
High school graduate or equivalent required.
ExperienceOne year of surgery or materials management preferred. Previous nursing assistant or environmental assistant experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Licensure/CertificationBasic Life Support (BLS) within three months of hire required.
